Good Mother Project

At Sacred Heart Southern Missions, Project Good Mother is teaching young mothers how to care for their babies and themselves. The course also provides emotional and psychological support for the girls and emphasizes the importance of completing high school.

In 10 weeks of classes, held once each week, students learn about everything from prenatal care and parenting to nutrition and CPR. One of the teaching techniques involves life-size dolls with internal computers that electronically record how well their needs are met. At the end of each class, a probe is connected to each student’s doll and a report publishes how well Mom has done.

Each graduate is rewarded with a new car seat and a diaper bag filled with diapers, blankets, clothes, bottles and other baby essentials.
