Good Mother Project

At the Sacred Heart Southern Missions Social Services Office in Tunica, Mississippi, Project Good Mother is teaching new mothers how to care for their babies and themselves. In 15 weeks of classes, held once each week, students learn about everything from prenatal care to CPR.

One of the teaching techniques involves life-size dolls with internal computers that electronically record how well their needs are met. At the end of each class, a probe is connected to each student’s doll and a report publishes how well Mom has done.

Each graduate is rewarded with a new car seat and a diaper bag filled with diapers, clothes, bottles and other essentials.
