Veteran Shares His Blessings
Joe is a retired 37 year veteran who was stationed in many places during his military career. He feels God has looked kindly on him over the years and Joe has wanted to show his gratitude by sharing those blessings. Therefore, he has selected a charity in each of the states where he served. Having spent time in Biloxi, MS he knows the terrible poverty that exists in our state. Joe chose Sacred Heart Southern Missions to be his designated Mississippi charity. One of his ways of sharing has been to fund seven gift annuities with us.
“I get a rate of return that’s good and beats that of any bank,” said Joe when referring to his annuities, “and the tax free portion of the payments is nice too.” He rests assured with the knowledge that our annuity payments are backed by the full assets of Sacred Heart Southern Missions and that in forty years we have never missed a payment.
While Joe likes the variety of ministries undertaken by Sacred Heart Southern Missions feeding the poor has a special interest for him. “I feel we frequently miss helping people on the basic level of the pyramid of needs,” said Joe.
The personal relationship that Joe has developed with us is important to him as well. “Some charities get so big that donors are just numbers to them but I can always talk to someone at Sacred Heart about what are the most pressing needs at the moment,” said Joe. “It’s personal… I feel there is a connection with the staff of the organization.”
