Your Help Inspires Others To Pay It Forward

After preparing what was left of their groceries, Charlene asked her daughter to say the blessing. Thanking God for their meal, her daughter completed her prayer with, “Lord, please help us find food for dinner tomorrow.”

Working part-time at a hospital serving patient meals, Charlene could barely make ends meet. Her rent payment took most of her meager check. This single mother had to find another place with more affordable rent soon. A friend who lived in Walls encouraged her to apply at Dehon Village, our transitional housing neighborhood.

With your help, Sacred Heart Southern Missions can offer people like Charlene safe and affordable rental homes, giving them an opportunity to get on their feet, look for work, repair credit and restore order to their family life. At the Dehon Village Learning Center, your support provides programs for residents that enrich their lives, from classes on budgeting and home loan qualification to computer and job skill seminars and more.

When she applied to Dehon Village, Charlene learned about our Walls Food Pantry, where again, thanks to your generosity, she received food and other essentials.

A few months after her family moved to Dehon Village, she received a call from a relative. He offered to share his home with her family. As she moved out, Charlene donated many of her furnishings to Sacred Heart Southern Missions.

“I donated because I know what it’s like to have nothing. When God sends someone to help me, I want to turn around and help someone else.” As is so often the case, your generosity is multiplied with each gift, and those you help turn to others to do the same.
