Water, Water Everywhere... Amputee, wife gets bathroom makeover

Sacred Heart Southern Missions’ Economic Alternatives Program has graduated its tenth class of home health aides. Ten ladies proudly received their certificates at a ceremony at the Holly Springs Catholic Social Services office recently. This is the second class this year, and another is scheduled to begin this fall.

The Home Health Aide training program is a 27-class course presented through a partnership with Northwest Mississippi Community College Workforce Development. It teaches students the basic skills needed to attain an entry-level position as this type of caregiver. The waiting list of potential students necessitated the addition of a third class this year. SHSM Economic Alternatives Coordinator Eleanor Clayborn stated that there has been a perpetual interest in the class but the high demand for trained home health aides has driven up enrollment.

Graduate Atonya remarked on the benefits of the program, “It’s given me the opportunity to better myself and help others in their home. I am so excited!”
