Social Services

Through eight social service offices, Sacred Heart Southern Missions seek long term solutions to the problems suffered by poor families while our thrift store and food pantries provide for immediate needs. A variety of programs is available in each local area:

  • Direct Aid—food banks, clothing, rent and utilities assistance to families and individuals with verified need; counseling and referral; personal and family financial management classes, in Holly Springs, Hernando, Olive Branch, Senatobia, Tunica and Walls

  • Advocacy and assistance to eligible individuals and families applying for state and federal benefits—in Hernando, Holly Springs, Tunica and Walls.

  • Community Garden—planted and maintained by staff and volunteers in Holly Springs, providing fresh produce for the Garden Café’s free Thursday night meals and the Food Pantry.

  • Garden Café—A full evening meal provided every Tuesday and Thursday at Holly Springs Catholic Social Services, cooked and served by volunteers from churches in Marshall and DeSoto County, to needy families and homeless persons.

  • GED High School Diploma Classes in Holly Springs

  • Economic Alternatives Program providing resumé development and employment counseling as well as small business development assistance in Holly Springs

  • HIV/AIDS Direct Ministry operated out of Walls to persons and families affected by HIV/AIDS in northwest Mississippi and southeast Arkansas

  • Project Good Mother classes for pregnant teens;

  • Effective Parenting classes for court referred and other parents

  • A Thrift Store providing gently used clothing, furniture and household necessities to individuals and families a low cost, or in emergencies, at no cost with vouchers from our Social Service offices.

  • Home Repair and Rehab—Providing much needed home repairs and rehab to low income, disabled and elderly individuals.
