Economic Alternatives Provides Education Opportunities

Sacred Heart Southern Missions’ Economic Alternatives program helps individuals explore their options for employment and assist in small business start-up by developing business plans and securing small business loans. Existing small businesses are analyzed and given recommendations to strengthen and sustain the operation.

Additional support is realized through partnerships with other organizations to provide GED classes, computer classes, career planning, resume creation, interview preparation, and job searches.

As part of the Economic Alternatives Program, a Basic Computer course was held at SHSM’s Holly Springs Social Service office. Through a collaboration with Northwest Community College, the 9-class course included instruction in computer and Internet basics, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and Power Point. In addition, students were taught how to use their newfound computer skills to create resumes and search for employment. Each received the Certificate of Completion from NWCC. Sessions have already begun for the 9th Home Health Aide/Homemaker class. Twelve students are currently enrolled.
