Pennsylvania Ladies Club Sends Dresses, Love

The Ladies of Charity is a crafty group of Catholic women from Queen of the Rosary parish in Glassport, Penn. The average age of members is 75. They volunteer their time and talent in many areas of charitable work in their hometown and the surrounding region. Last year, after reading a SHSM “Mission News”, club member Christina Piccioni suggested that her group participate in a mission experience benefiting those we serve.

The group of approximately 20 women made several dozen handmade sundresses to distribute to our clients and to sell at the thrift store. Each member worked on their own dresses, customizing them with buttons, lace, patterns and other embellishments. The pretty little dresses were then packed up and sent to Mississippi.

This year, we received two shipments and close to one hundred- fifty dresses. Added to the mix was a supply handmade shorts. Such was the response to the dresses we received last year, that it was decided to offer them to our Summer Camp participants and the children at Dehon Village.

The first fitting looked like sale day at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York. “Will this fit me?” “How does this look?” “Do you have another Hello Kitty?” “I want a pair of shorts!” The questions came and dresses flew out the door. After the mad rush, only a handful remained. Thank you ladies, for making these young people so happy!
